The classic sparkling wine range by Peter Herres has been made in Trier since 1976. The brand has been marketed and exported for more than 40 years now. In fact, in the 1980s Römer was selling over 10 million bottles a year. The sparkling wine was named after the history of its home town Trier. The city was once the centre of antiquity and one of the biggest metropolises in the Roman Empire. It is told that the Romans have been drinking "bubbly wine" as culmination of their ceremonies.
